Global Citizenship

At POWIIS we shape future change makers by considering multiple perspectives on contemporary issues. We empower our community to make informed decisions in favour of environmental integrity, economic viability and social justice. We engage, locally and globally, as proactive contributors to a more peaceful, tolerant and sustainable world.

The award winning POWIIS Project is the flagship of our global citizenship education curriculum. The motto is ‘Be the change, make a difference’ and our students fully embrace this. We work with a number of organisations from around Penang, such as the Habitat Foundation, CEMACS, Kechara Soup Kitchen and many more.

All students select a passion project and spend every Friday afternoon serving the community. They may travel off campus to undertake service education; this could be beach cleaning, tree planting or turtle spotting; alternatively they could recycle household waste from the local residents and sell the items around the Island. All the projects have been mapped against the United Nations Sustainable Development goals and will have a direct impact on the Penang community. The Projects fall into 4 strands coordinated by our student committees.

  • Sustainable Development Committee
  • Humanitarian & Well-Being Committee
  • Eco Committee
  • Soft Skills Committee
