POWIIS Project
Part of our Global Citizenship
Education Curriculum
We are very proud of the POWIIS Project which is the flagship of our global citizenship education curriculum. The motto is ‘Be the change, make a difference’ and our students are fully embracing this. We have a range of 25+ projects, working with various organisations from around Penang, such as the Habitat Foundation, CEMACS, Kechara Soup Kitchen and many more. Taking part in these projects teaches students about the UN Sustainable Development goals, as well as valuable skills for the future such as teamwork.
All students select a project and will spend every Friday afternoon taking part in it. They may travel off campus to undertake service education; this could be beach cleaning, tree planting or turtle spotting. Students who stay in school also have a huge selection of activities, such as designing and planting our very own community garden or recycling household waste for the local residents.
POWIIS is fully committed to its core values
POWIIS aims to nurture a sense of service within its students
POWIIS is socially responsible and proud to contribute to the future of Penang
Every Friday afternoon students undertake a form of Global Citizenship Education by selecting a POWIIS Project they would like to commit to for a term or more. There are over 30 projects to choose from ranging from beach cleans, to maintaining trails, supporting refugees,
upcycling plastics and junk and working to protect animals. All the projects have been mapped against the United Nations Sustainable Development goals and will have a direct impact on the Penang community.
